INDIANAPOLIS – With the announcement of the 2013 NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship field Friday, the UIndy men's golf team is set to make its ninth consecutive postseason trip. The Greyhounds, who secured an automatic berth after an impressive
win at the GLVC Championship last weekend, will be one of 20 teams competing in the Central/ Midwest Regional in Kenosha, Wis., May 6-8.
Dubbed the No. 4 seed in the Midwest, the Greyhounds will be one of five GLVC teams at the regional, including top-seeded Missouri-St. Louis. GLIAC-champ Grand Valley State earned the No. 6 seed, while fellow-GLIAC-teams Wayne State and Ferris State nabbed the second and third seed, respectively.
The top five teams at the regional, as well as the top two student-athletes not with an advancing team will move on to the NCAA Division II Championships May 16-19, hosted at Hershey Country Club in Hershey, Pa.
Last season, UIndy carded a one-over 289 in the final round of the regional to secure a spot in the finals. The Greyhounds, who placed 11th at the 2012 championships, are gunning for their 10th NCAA finals appearance.
The Greyhounds are coached by Greenwood, Ind., native
Brent Nicoson, who is wrapping up his seventh season as the UIndy head man. The team has advanced to the NCAA Tournament each season under his tutelage.
