UIndy wins first-ever GLVC Commissioner's Cup

INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Indianapolis has captured its first ever Great Lakes Valley Conference Commissioner's Cup, the league announced Tuesday, becoming the fifth school to bring home the trophy in its 12-year history.

Unlike the GLVC All-Sports trophy, which UIndy claimed yesterday, the Commissioner's Cup is a traveling trophy awarded for performance in only the seven core conference championship sports including baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, softball and women's volleyball.

UIndy compiled 86.5 points, narrowly edging GLVC-newcomer Truman State's 83. Last year's recipient of the Commissioner's Cup, Lewis University, finished third with 79.5 point, while Drury University (76.0) and the University of Southern Indiana (73.5) finished in the top five.

The Greyhounds made it to six of the seven core sports' GLVC Championship Tournaments, with volleyball winning the title and men's soccer finishing as runners-up to lead UIndy in individual points. The Hounds made a strong jump up from 2012-13's seventh-place finish for the Cup, including eight more points from men's soccer and six more from baseball this year compared to last.

Former league members Northern Kentucky (eight) and SIU-Edwardsville (one) account for nine of the 12 winners. Southern Indiana (2003-04), Lewis (2012-13) and UIndy now each own one Commissioner's Cup title.
