Defending-champ UIndy tabbed GLVC favorite by league coaches

LEBANON, Ill. – For the fourth time in as many season, the University of Indianapolis football team topped the Great Lakes Valley Conference Preseason Coaches Poll.  The announcement was made in conjunction with the annual GLVC Football Kickoff, held Friday on the campus of McKendree University in Lebanon, Ill.

The poll featured the league's nine football-playing schools, with UIndy receiving the maximum eight first-place votes and 64 points (no coach could vote for his own team).  The Greyhounds return 15 starters – nine offensive, six defensive – from a 2014 squad that finished 9-2 on the way to a third straight GLVC championship.

Truman State collected 52 points to secure second place in the preseason poll, while third-place Saint Joseph's garnered 47 points as well as the lone remaining first-place nod.

McKendree was a close fourth with 46 points, followed by Quincy (34), Missouri S&T (32) and William Jewell (26). GLVC associate-members Southwest Baptist University (12) and Lincoln University (11) rounded out the list at eighth and ninth, respectively.

Last season, UIndy continued its stranglehold on the GLVC crown after compiling a 7-1 mark in league play. The Greyhounds, led by head coach Bob Bartolomeo, is the only team to win the GLVC championship since the league began sponsoring football in 2012.

UIndy opens its 2015 campaign at home with a key in-region game versus Saginaw Valley State Thursday, Sept. 3.
