INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Indianapolis athletic department captured its second Great Lakes Valley Conference Commissioner's Cup, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday. After winning their first in 2013-14, the Greyhounds are now the only current conference members with multiple titles since the Cup was instituted in 2002-03.
Unlike the GLVC All-Sports trophy,
which UIndy claimed yesterday, the Commissioner's Cup is a traveling trophy awarded for performance in only the seven core conference championship sports including baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, softball and women's volleyball.
UIndy compiled 86.0 points, besting Rockhurst (80.0) by six points. Bellarmine (79.0), Quincy (75.0) and Truman (71.0) round out the remainder of the top five.
The Greyhounds made it to six of the seven core sports' GLVC Championship Tournaments, bringing home conference titles in softball and baseball. UIndy also finished second in volleyball and third in men's soccer.
Former league members Northern Kentucky (eight) and SIU-Edwardsville (one) account for nine of the Cup's 14 winners. Southern Indiana (2003-04), Lewis (2012-13) and Drury (2014-15) each own one Commissioner's Cup title.
