SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The No. 12 UIndy tennis team cruised to a first-round victory in the GLVC Championship Tournament on Friday at Cooper Tennis Complex. The Greyhounds earned the 5-0 sweep of No. 42 Rockhurst, the West Division's fourth seed.
Â
All-conference player
Christoph Drechsler and
Magnus Mueller kept up their great play as a tandem on Friday morning, finishing first among the group with an 8-6 victory at No. 2 doubles.
Nils Hoffacker and
Dario Huber drew the start at No. 3 doubles, defeating their counterparts, 8-3.
Â
GLVC Freshman of the Year
Renato Lima and mate
Andrea Morlet also took down their opponents in the No. 1 slot to complete the sweep in doubles.
Â
As each match is designated four courts at the complex, the top four singles matches began immediately after doubles, but Lima (No. 2) and Mueller (No. 4) were the first singles to finish, ending the match in favor of the tournament's top seed, 5-0. The two Hounds won by the same score (6-0, 6-1), while the other singles matches in progress (
Nils Hoffacker at No. 1,
Dario Huber at No. 3) were halted.
Â
The men play the winner of Missouri-St. Louis and Southern Indiana, the West's two seed and East's third seed, respectively, tomorrow at 10 a.m. ET.
