SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The No. 12 UIndy men's tennis team ran by competition again on Saturday afternoon at the GLVC Championship Tournament, sweeping Southern Indiana for the second time in eight days.
The Greyhounds will vie for their third-straight conference tournament title tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. local time from Cooper Tennis Complex. The Screaming Eagles were the East Division's third seed, who advanced to the tournament semifinals with a win over Missouri-St. Louis yesterday morning.
Nils Hoffacker and
Dario Huber made quick work of their No. 3 doubles counterparts, sparking the sweep with an 8-1 victory.
Christoph Drechsler and
Magnus Mueller also pulled out a tight win in the No. 2 slot, finishing second among the tandems with the 8-6 triumph. It took extra sets at No. 1 doubles, but the top duo of
Renato Lima and
Andrea Morlet snuck out a 9-7 win to give the Hounds a commanding 3-0 advantage heading into singles.Â
Mueller began the singles wins for UIndy with a brisk 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 4, while
Matej Kostadinov edged out Hoffacker to be the clinching fifth win for the team with a 6-0 straight-set victory.Â
UIndy will defend its GLVC title tomorrow against either Drury or Lewis. The Greyhounds defeated each team 8-1 earlier this season.
