UIndy dominates yearly conference awards

INDIANAPOLIS- The University of Indianapolis men's golf team was featured heavily in the 2009 All-Great Lakes Valley Conference Team, as five Greyhounds appeared on the ten-man squad.  The league's coaches also voted on three other end-of-year awards, with UIndy head coach Brent Nicoson taking Coach of the Year, Aaron Monson taking Freshman of the Year, and Justin Hueber garnering a second straight GLVC Men's Golfer of the Year honor.

A unanimous selection for the league's top golfer, Hueber has posted a 70.5 scoring average and won six tournaments this season, including the 2009 GLVC Championship held at Otter Creek Golf Course Apr. 9-10. The senior standout is currently ranked first in NCAA Division II according to the latest Golfstat Cup rankings and is a finalist for two international teams.

UIndy head coach Brent Nicoson has been selected the 2009 GLVC Men's Golf Coach of the Year. The third-year coach claims the award for the second straight season after leading UIndy to a 158-9-1 head-to-head record in 2009 and to the school's second straight GLVC title.  Nicoson's squad has won seven tournaments this year and posted a record-breaking effort at the GLVC Championships by posting the lowest 54-round total (864) in conference history.

In addition, Aaron Monson was named by the coaches as the 2009 GLVC Men's Freshman Golfer of the Year. Monson has posted a 73.38 scoring average in 29 rounds this season and has recorded 11 top-twenty finishes in 12 events. He currently has a head-to-head record of 748-127-31 and broke two school records in his medalist outing at Hawkshead last fall.

Monson was also voted to the all-conference team, along with teammate Kyle Pearson.  They joined Hueber, Seth Fair, and Blair Webb as all-conference honorees, as the latter group qualified based on their top-five performance at the GLVC Championships.

UIndy is currently competing in the 2009 NCAA DII Midwest/South Central Super Regional in Allendale, Mich.  The teams head into Wednesday's third and final round in four place in the 20-team field.  The top five teams and top two individuals not with those teams will move on to the finals, held at Loomis Trail Golf Club in Blaine, Wash. May 19-22.  Click here for live stats.
