INDIANAPOLIS – Despite a 33-18 win versus Delta State Saturday, the UIndy football team fell one slot to No. 5 in this week's NCAA Division II Super Region #4 poll. The top three teams stayed put, but Midwestern State jumped from eighth to fourth, nudging the Greyhounds down a spot.
Though the Delta State win was a big one for UIndy, Midwestern State's thrilling 52-48 victory against regional-ranked West Texas A&M last weekend went a long way in helping the Mustangs climb four spots. Colorado State-Pueblo and Ashland traded places for the second straight week, with CSU-Pueblo retaking the No. 1 position. Saginaw Valley State dropped from sixth to 10th after a five-point loss at Northern Michigan.
Just six teams from each region will advance to the 24-team NCAA D-II Championships. The annual tournament will begin on campus sites Nov. 17. The opening round will feature the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds hosting games versus the sixth- and fifth-seeded squads, respectively, while the top two teams will receive byes.
Ranked 19th in the
latest coaches' poll, Greyhounds are looking for their first postseason appearance since joining Division II back in 1979. They last made the NCAA playoffs as a D-III squad in 1975.
