Upset bid falls short for Hounds

TIFFIN, Ohio – Despite four goals apiece from Sydney Hauffman and Chalane Morrison, UIndy (6-10, 4-7 GLIAC) came up short in its upset bid, falling to Tiffin (11-5, 9-2 GLIAC) 18-14 Friday night.

The Dragons took a step forward as a program this season after finally getting over the hurdle that the rest of the conference had yet to clear: Grand Valley State. Tiffin's 16-15 OT victory over the Lakers back on Apr. 16 was the first time in three-plus seasons GVSU dropped a conference game.

Indianapolis entered looking to snap Tiffin's six-game winning streak, and really held their own compared to the first time the two teams met (L, 5-15).

The teams exchanged goals for much of the first 30 minutes. Although UIndy at no point led in the first half, the Hounds were generally able to answer and limit long scoring runs. The advantage never swelled larger than three, and TU took a 10-7 lead into halftime.

Morrison scored each of her four goals in the opening frame, with Hana Priddy adding a pair and Hauffman tallying her first.

UIndy exploded out of the gates in the second half, netting goals from Hauffman and Anna Rulapaugh to cut the lead to one.

Unfortunately, the Hounds' ability to limit the Tiffin runs early failed to carry over after half. Tiffin would run off eight of the next ten goals, essentially putting the game away leading by as many as seven.

Rulapaugh would add two more scores, her fourth game of the year with at least three goals.

Meanwhile, Morrison added to her team-high in goals, pushing her season total to 37.

With Findlay's 13-12 upset win over McKendree tonight, the Hounds are assured of the five seed in the GLIAC tournament. Sunday's matchup between UIndy and Findlay will be a preview of the #4 vs. #5 opening round matchup. The Hounds won a close 10-8 decision between the two teams back on Apr. 8 at Key Stadium.
