University of Indianapolis Trademark Licensing Program
If you’re interested in producing merchandise with official UIndy logos, the first step is to become a licensed vendor through our program’s manager, Learfield Licensing Partners.
Why Establish a Trademark Licensing Program?
The University of Indianapolis trademark licensing program was established to protect and promote University trademarks in a positive manner. All University of Indianapolis trademarks are protected under this program. These include logos, design marks, word marks and verbiage marks. Though protecting the integrity of the University's trademarks is an important part of this program, so are outreach, education and promotion. Creating and maintaining positive relationships with manufacturers and retailers is an integral part of the program's overall success, and helps to ensure products bearing the marks of the University are of the highest quality and helps to satisfy consumer demand.
What Do Licensing Program Revenues Support?
Licensed manufacturers must pay a royalty to the University on the sales of any product bearing UIndy trademarks. These revenues help to support the mission of the University. Although sales directly to the University are exempt from the royalty policy, any such sales and products must be from a licensed vendor.
What Qualifies as a Trademark?
Any logo, word mark, nickname, verbiage mark, series of letters or acronyms associated with the University of Indianapolis distinguishable from those of other universities, teams, mascots or organizations are protected under UIndy’s trademark licensing program.
What Are Examples of UIndy Trademarks?
UIndy trademarks include any graphic representation, symbol, drawing, official University seals, words or series of words and acronyms that have come to be associated with the University, its programs, or intercollegiate athletic teams. These marks would include, but not be limited to designs that incorporate the following:
The University Word Marks
University Marks
University of Indianapolis®
University of Indianapolis Greyhounds™
UIndy®
Flying “I”
University of Indianapolis Seal
Hounds™
ACE (when referring to the university mascot)
*Any designs which may cause confusion in the mind of the public are a direct infringement upon University of Indianapolis trademark rights.
Who Needs to Carry a License With UIndy?
All manufacturers who produce goods bearing any of the University's trademarks must be licensed. This includes vendors producing merchandise and selling directly to the University for internal usage and consumption.
What Products Can Be Licensed?
The University of Indianapolis reserves the right to consider and approve any product or product category for license; however, no product will be licensed without the approval of the licensing program. This helps to ensure products bearing UIndy's trademarks are of the highest quality and represent the University in a positive manner.
Designs must be of high quality and appropriately portray the image of the University. Designs containing vulgar, inappropriate, or insensitive language or imagery, profanity, or words or imagery with inappropriate double meanings will not be approved. Additionally, proactive review helps to identify products that may not be appropriate for UIndy's trademarks, may be hazardous, or present a liability concern.

How Can a License Be Obtained?
The University of Indianapolis works closely with Learfield Licensing Partners in the administration of its Trademarks and Licensing program. If you would like to have a product produced, a licensed vendor must be used; a listing of UIndy's
licensed vendors is available online. If you want to use a vendor who is not listed, that vendor must become licensed prior to production. To obtain an application packet or to learn more about licensing and royalty information, please contact Learfield Licensing Partners or visit
