MARQUETTE, Mich. – UIndy women's lacrosse rewrote the record book with a massive 26-3 victory at Northern Michigan Sunday in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest.
The Greyhounds' 26 goals set a standard for the second-year program, surpassing the 22 goals scored earlier this season against Lee. It's also a record for largest margin of victory, helping UIndy improve to 10-4 overall and 3-2 in the GLIAC.
Northern Michigan, competing in its inaugural season, fell to 2-11 (0-5).
Several Hounds racked up gaudy numbers, led by sophomore
Hana Priddy's and junior
Anna Rulapaugh's eight points apiece. Both scored five goals and dished three assists – all personal bests for Priddy. The Louisville, Ky., native also reeled in eight draw controls for UIndy.
Rulapaugh ran her point total up to 69, extending her own single-season record.
Freshman
Kylie Backus set career marks with three goals and two assists, and senior
Erika Mackenzie matched her with an identical five-point output. It was the fourth career hat trick while at UIndy for Mackenzie.
Others making offensive impacts included freshman
Riley McClure, who netted a personal-high three goals and corralled four draw controls. Senior
Chalane Morrison was relatively quiet by her lofty standards, but still finished with a pair of goals and an assist. She is one goal away from matching her team-best 44 scores during the Hounds' inaugural 2016 season.
Redshirt-freshmen
Sarah Konecny and
Krista Temple each finished with a goal and an assist, and sophomore
Hannah Burczyk netted two scores.
Less than three minutes had passed before the Greyhounds scored their first four goals.
Freshman
Micayla Gammon netted a goal roughly 40 seconds into the game, and was followed soon after by Burczyk's first score.
Mackenzie and Priddy got in on the action shortly after, making it 4-0 in the blink of an eye.
Northern Michigan managed a pair of goals to stem the bleeding, but it wasn't long before UIndy poured in nine unanswered to end the half.
It was much of the same in the second, as UIndy outscored its hosts 11-1 across the final 30 minutes to complete the rout.
Morrison led UIndy with four ground balls, followed by Mackenzie's three. The Hounds gathered 20 ground balls to Northern Michigan's nine.
UIndy out-shot the Wildcats 45 to 6 – including a 41-3 advantage for shots on goal – and came up with 22 of 30 draw controls.
Although they didn't face many shots, three Greyhound goalies saw action: sophomores
Lauren Granville and
Irene Carlquist, and redshirt-freshman
Clare Difato.
UIndy has two more crucial GLIAC games left on the schedule, hosting Tiffin next Friday at 4 p.m. ET and Findlay the following Saturday at noon in Key Stadium.
