Greyhounds Celebrate Seniors with 23-1 Romp of Ashland

INDIANAPOLIS – Friday marked an exciting time for the UIndy women's lacrosse program at Key Stadium, with Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action on the docket as Ashland University visited the Circle City.

Prior to the game, UIndy honored 12 seniors – including 10 members of the inaugural class that began the program back in 2016. After announcements and hugs and filled with adrenaline and happiness, the Greyhounds topped the Eagles, 23-1, to improve to 13-1 on the season and 9-0 in GLIAC play.

Ashland, who entered its first NCAA season in program history in 2019, fell to 4-7 and 3-5 in GLIAC.

Krista Temple has proven to be a valuable asset to the UIndy offense this season having accumulated 31 points through the team's first 13 games. The senior out of Springboro, Ohio added six goals and one assist in Friday's win, including the first score just 36 seconds into the contest.

The rout was on from that point.

Overall, the Greyhounds scored 10 goals in first 10 minutes of the game, with seniors Sarah Konecny and Hannah Burczyk tacking on scores during that time. Temple netted four goals in the opening half, while Grace Gunneson scored three before the break.

Seven of eight second-half goals by the Greyhounds were scored by seniors, as Burczyk and Konecny each finished with a pair of goals. Genevieve Jablonski, Laura McKee, and Lauren Wagner – primarily known as defenders – also found the back of the cage on Friday. It was the first career goal for each of Jablonski and Wager, and the first since 2017 for McKee.

Senior keeper Lauren Granville received her first start this season, making four saves on five Ashland shot attempts. The lone Eagles goal snuck by the Owings, Md. native with just 13 minutes left in the contest.

"We are very excited for our seniors," head coach James Delaney said after the game. They provided this program with such a great foundation that we still have plenty of outstanding years ahead of us."

Peyton Romig surpassed 300 career draw controls after securing the first four of the game, while Burczyk topped 100 career points in the win. The senior is now just one of five Greyhounds to reach the milestone.

UIndy is back on the road next Thursday with a tilt scheduled at Northern Michigan for 7 p.m.
