ALLENDALE, Mich. – The No. 13 UIndy Softball team wrapped up the 2019 season at the NCAA DII Midwest Super Regional Friday with a 4-2 loss at seventh-ranked Grand Valley State. The Greyhounds finish with a 49-17 (.742) record while making their fourth-ever appearance at the Super Regional.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Facing GLIAC Pitcher of the Year Allison Lipovsky (31-2) for the second straight day, the Hounds found more success the second time around, ultimately out-hitting the Lakers, 9-8. But UIndy fell behind after a pair of GVSU runners crossed the plate in the top of the first.
Â
Down 3-0 in the sixth inning, the Greyhounds orchestrated its best rally of the series, putting the potential go-ahead run on second base.
Haylie Foster led off with a single ahead of Gianni Iannaonte's shot to deep center – her second home run in as many days – to cut the deficit to one.
Â
Cathy Skaggs and
Shannon Schuetz followed with a single apiece before a GV error loaded the bases with two down. Lipovsky would retire the next batter on strikes, however, ending the rally and preserving the Laker lead.
The Greyhounds had a chance to win thanks in part to Foster's relief work in the circle. She came on in the third frame and tossed five innings, allowing just one unearned run.
Halie Waters (23-11) got the start after pitching a complete game yesterday. She lasted two-plus innings today to take the loss.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Iannantone finished the two-game series 4-for-7 with three RBIs and two homers. She becomes just the third Greyhound ever to surpass 60 ribbies in a season, as her final total of 61 is tied for second on the UIndy single-season annals.
- Catcher
Taylor Danielson threw out a would-be base stealer in the fourth inning. She gunned down a combined four base runners in the postseason (GLVC and NCAA Tournaments) after throwing out just one in the regular season.
- Outfielder
Kamrie Foster had an clutch catch in the fourth inning With a runner on first, DII Freshman of the Year finalist Lydia Goble drove a shot to right, but Foster hauled it in just before crashing into the fence.
- Grand Valley has now eliminated the Greyhounds from the regional in each of the last four years.
