UIndy Secures GLVC Tournament Spot With Comeback Win

INDIANAPOLIS – Facing a 15-point deficit midway through the second half, the UIndy men's basketball team stormed back for a 77-74 win against visiting Lindenwood Saturday evening. The result bumped the Greyhounds' record to 10-11 to earn the No. 8 seed in the upcoming GLVC Championship Tournament.

INS & OUTS
The Hounds trailed 64-49 with 13 minutes to go with perhaps the season on the line, but as they've proven a number of times in the last month and a half, they were up to the task. In his best game as a collegian, Julian Steinfeld's offensive rebound and put-back sparked a 16-2 run that vaulted the Hounds into the lead with just under five minutes to play.

The teams went back and forth from that point, but it was the Hounds'continued work on the offensive glass that proved to be the difference. Steinfeld had another put-back with 66 seconds left that tied it a 74 apiece, and later Mikail Simmons grabbed a clutch offensive board off a missed foul shot in the final seconds to help seal it.

It was sophomore Kendrick Tchoua's free throw that broke the 74-74 tie with 8.0 to go, and Simmons that knocked down two from the stripe with 6.1 left for the final points of the night.

INSIDE THE BOX
- UIndy out-scored the Lions 42-27 in the second half.
- Steinfeld set season highs with 17 points and 12 rebounds, good for his first career double-double.
- Cory Miller Jr. led the Hounds with 20 points on 7-for-16 shooting, while adding four rebounds and seven assists.

HOUND BYTES
Assistant Coach Roosevelt Jones on Steinfeld's impact ...
"He's been working hard all year. The Julian you see right now is what we see day in and day out. He works hard, in the gym after practice always working on his game. He knows he's a freshman so he knows he has to work, but when he got in there and got his minutes, he excelled, so Julien has always been ready to go. We're so happy for him. He's a great guy and we know the work he's put in."

Steinfield on the team's focus heading into today's game ...
"On Thursday, we lost a tough one. Our goal was to get double-digit wins since we started off the season slow, and our dream was still alive. Today we just wanted double-digit wins, and that's why we went all-in again today."

UP NEXT
The Hounds shift their focus to the 2021 GLVC crown. The conference quarterfinals are set for Wednesday, March 3, with UIndy heading to Kirksville, Mo., and top-seeded Truman State University for an 8:30 p.m. ET tip.
