Erin Abbott enters her sixth year at the University of Indianapolis, and her second in the role of Associate Athletics Director of Athletics for Business Operations for the 2021-2022 year.
Abbott originally came to UIndy as a part of the women's lacrosse staff in the fall of 2017, serving as the Greyhounds' defensive coordinator while playing a large role in player development and recruiting.
The Greyhound defense rose to newer heights in 2019 under Abbott, finishing the spring with the best scoring defense in all of NCAA Division II. UIndy surrendered just 5.2 goals per game en route to its second straight NCAA tournament berth, including the team's second consecutive GLIAC championship.
Four defenders were named All-GLIAC this season, with Riley McClure earning her second straight Defender of the Year honor. Trisha Koning, Erika Mayette, and Lauren Wagner were also named all-conference, with McClure and Wagner earning spots on the IWLCA All-Region squads. McClure was named an IWLCA Third-Team All-American after breaking her own program records in ground balls and caused turnovers, marking the second time the Ancaster, Ontario product has been recognized as one of the best players in the country.
In her first season on the Greyhound bench, Abbott made immediate strides for a team that ranked in the top 25 in scoring defense at the end of the season. The former All-American defender helped sophomore Riley McClure earn GLIAC Defender of the Year honors, as well as Darby Smith earn an honorable-mention nod by the conference as a rookie.
Abbott took over as the Hounds' top assistant after completing a standout career as a student-athlete at Division II-power Lindenwood University. She was a four-year all-conference performer and two-time All-American, leading the Lady Lions to three NCAA Championship semifinal appearances. She finished her collegiate career as the program's all-time leader in ground balls (174), draw controls (192) and caused turnovers (112).
Abbott was also a three-year team captain at Lindenwood. The Whitby, Ontario native was named All-America First Team by the IWLCA in both 2016 and 2017, while garnering RMAC Defensive Player of the Year accolades both seasons. She earned her undergraduate degree from Lindenwood in marketing in the spring of 2016, her Master's of Business Administration from Lindenwood in 2017, and her Master's in Sport Management from UIndy in May of 2020. She married Carney Gillin in August 2019.
