Dave McKown

Dave McKown enters his seventh season as the Greyhound diving coach in 2021-22, working with divers from both the UIndy men's and women's teams.

McKown has elevated UIndy diving to national prominence in a short amount of time. In just six seasons, he has mentored eight different student-athletes to a combined 33 All-America performances, starting with the UIndy men's first-ever All-America First Team honoree in 2016 as well as five national runner-up finishes.

On the conference level, the Greyhounds have dominated GLVC diving since McKown took over, combining for ten GLVC Diver of the Year honorees. The run began with Dalton Cline in 2016, followed by two-time honorees Josh Zylstra (2017-18) and Payton Staman (19-20). Cassie Kury engineered a three-peat (2018-20) on the women's side before Mikaela Starr (co-champion) and Benjamin Rader swept the award for the men's and women's programs in 2021.

A native of the Indianapolis area, McKown came to UIndy after spending five years working with local youth divers. He began coaching at the high school level in the fall of 2010 at nearby Park Tudor High School and later worked at North Central High School as well as the Indiana International School of Diving. At the IISD, McKown mentored one high school state champion, five top-three state performers, 13 regional gold medalists, nine national qualifiers, nine summer junior national finalists, one Junior Elite Squad member and a Future Olympic Force member.

As a prep, McKown spent two years at the aforementioned Park Tudor and two at Lawrence North HS on the way to becoming a four-time IHSAA state qualifier. After graduating high school in 2005, he went on to dive at Division I Miami (OH) University, helping the RedHawks to a MAC conference title in 2006. McKown earned a degree from Miami in psychology in 2010.
