Volleyballers dominate, sweep doubleheader

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The University of Indianapolis played its only doubleheader of the season Friday night, defeating both opponents in impressive fashion, with Oakland City (30-12, 31-29, 30-17) and Kentucky Wesleyan (30-26, 30-13, 30-13) each falling in three-straight games.  The Hounds outscored their opponents 181-110 on the night, with an average margin of victory of nearly 14 points per game.

In the first match-up, UIndy took on the Lady Oaks of Oakland City.  The Greyhounds cruised through the first game, powered by a late 13-1 run, including running-off eight straight at one point.

OCU rebounded in the second game and found itself up 28-26, putting pressure on the Hounds.  UIndy responded, however, by scoring four of the next five points to go up 2-0.

The Greyhounds started the third and final game on an 8-0 run and didn’t look back, taking the game and the match.

Senior Lynne Ross paced the Hounds with 11 kills with a .421 hitting percentage.  Freshman Jessica Breeden contributed six kills and three blocks while Kyleigh Turner scooped 10 digs.

In the second match, UIndy returned to conference play to face the KWC Panthers.  Unfortunately for the Panthers, the match would play out much like the first with the Hounds dominating two games and prevailing in another.  UIndy hit for a .385 percentage on the match while holding KWC in the negative in two games and .047 overall.

Junior Casey Chrzastowski killed eleven balls and sophomore Alyssa Carlotta finished nine attacks while compiling a .444 hitting percentage.  Freshman Brandi McAllister recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 25 assists and 11 digs.  Ross contributed 11 kills and five blocks.  Her eight blocks on the night brings her career total to 529, three away from breaking the school’s all-time mark.

UIndy (19-8, 8-5 GLVC) goes back on the road to face Saint Joseph’s on Tuesday, Oct. 17.  The Hounds swept the Pumas in the first meeting this season.
