Hounds celebrate Senior Day with a “W”

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Senior Lynne Ross enjoyed a career day in her final match at the Ruth Lilly Fitness Center.  In addition to killing 10 balls on just 19 attempts, the team’s captain tallied a personal-best 13 blocks in the match.  Ross led UIndy to a three-game sweep of visiting West Virginia State by scores of 30-26, 30-21, and 30-28, with three Hounds recording double-doubles on the day.  Coach Butera’s other senior, Eileen Patton, was also recognized, though injury prevented her from participating.

Though the box score will show a sweep, the win did not come easily.  The visitors battled to earn a 25-21 lead late in game one.  An Alyssa Carlotta kill started a rally as the Greyhounds would score the next three points to force a WVSU timeout.  The home momentum was not slowed by the stoppage, however, as UIndy would score nine of the final ten points to take the early lead.

The second game went much smoother for the Hounds as they used a .436 team hitting percentage to defeat WVSU by a 30-21 count and put the Yellow Jackets in a 2-0 hole.

WVSU would not go quietly as the third game proved to be the match’s most exciting.  A score of 28-28 marked the last of 14 ties in the see-saw game.  Fittingly, the final two points came on blocks from Ross, with the last coming with assistance from Casey Chrzastowski.

Chrzastowski was Ross’ block buddy throughout the match, as she also set a career-high in blocks with 10, many of them coming as block assists with Ross.  Chrzastowski also added 10 kills and four digs.

Freshman Brandi McAllister managed her eighth double-double of the season by tallying match highs in both assists (29) and digs (16).  Sophomore Ashley Fallos just missed a double-double of her own as she recorded nine kills and 15 digs.  Carlotta hit .310 for the match and led the Hounds with 12 kills.

UIndy (21-9, 9-5 GLVC) has just two matches left before the conference tournament.  The Hounds will cross the Mississippi to face Missouri-St. Louis on Oct. 27.
