Hounds outlast Riverwomen in five-game thriller

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – In its longest match of the season, the University of Indianapolis finally sank the Riverwomen of Missouri-St. Louis by scores of 36-34, 32-30, 24-30, 29-31 and 16-14.  Four of the five games went past regulation, including a 36-34 marathon in game one.  Five Hounds reached double-digits in kills with sophomore Alyssa Carlotta leading the way with a season-high 20 to go along with five blocks.

Though it required more than 30 points in each of the first two games, the Greyhounds built a 2-0 lead, pointing the face of elimination straight at UMSL.  The Riverwomen clawed back to tie the match at two games apiece, forcing a deciding game five.  In an exciting finish, UIndy would prevail, 16-14, to take the match.  The victory gave the Hounds 10 conference wins on the season, their fourth straight year with a double-digit total.

Many Hounds excelled statistically for the visiting team.  Sophomore Ashley Fallos recorded her best overall match of the season by tallying 13 kills, 15 digs and 2 blocks.  Freshman Jessica Breeden killed 11 balls with a match-high .364 hitting percentage while adding five blocks.  Freshman Brandi McAllister collected another double-double with 55 assists and a team-best 17 digs.

UIndy (22-9, 10-5 GLVC) concludes its regular season schedule with a road match versus Quincy on Saturday with the conference tournament starting on Nov. 2.
