INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The University of Indianapolis completed a three-game homestand Tuesday night with a sweep over non-conference Taylor University at the Ruth Lilly Fitness Center. The Hounds now have 13 sweeps on the season, three more than all of last year.
With seven ties coming early in game one, the two teams traded the initial points, leaving one to think that the Hounds may be in for a long night against the NAIA foe. However, with the score knotted at 11, the Greyhounds found their rhythm and proceeded to go on a 19-7 run to go up 1-0. Senior Lynne Ross led the charge by killing six of seven attacks with zero errors as UIndy out hit the Trojans .450 to .098.
In the second game, the Greyhounds would find points harder to come by. Neither team would own a lead of more than four points before tying the score at 24. From that point, UIndy would take advantage of four Taylor attack errors and would close game two with a kill by Ross, winning 30-25. Junior
Casey Chrzastowski would hit for a perfect five-for-five in the second game.
The third stanza came easier for the Hounds as the final score of 30-22 was the closest the visitors would get since the early going. Sophomore
Alyssa Carlotta hit .857 with six kills in the final game and freshman libero
Kyleigh Turner had seven digs, nearly half of her match total of 16.
UIndy (17-5, 7-2 GLVC) continues conference play with three tough road matches, with the first coming against Rockhurst on Oct. 6. The Hounds do not return home until an Oct. 13 doubleheader versus Oakland City and Kentucky Wesleyan.
