CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind.- Pool records fell as the University of Indianapolis finished runner-up in both the women's and men's standings at the completion of the Wabash Invitational concluded Saturday. The meet featured four pool records for the Greyhounds as they racked-up several top finishes.
Winners included both 800 freestyle relay team and the women's 200 yard medley relay. Both 200 freestyle events went to Greyhounds (Alex Arestis and Alison Smith), along with the 100 free (Arestis), 200 back (Thad Wallin) and 200 individual medley (Hanno Ahonen).
Ellie Miller etched an NCAA B-cut with her 17:33.99 time in the 1650 freestyle. She also won the 500 freestyle race. Smith won the 200 freestyle, 200 backstroke and the 100 backstroke, marking a new pool record in the latter (1:00.08). Niki Stevens followed with a new pool record in the 100 breaststroke, touching in 1:09.70, and then also won the 200-yard event (2:30.18).
Reigning Division II Female Swimmer of the Week Valerie Crosby shattered the pool record in the 100 butterfly, shaving more than a second off the previous time she set two years ago (58.46). Katie Murray set a pool record of her own in the 200 individual medlay, recording a 2:13.79 clocking.
Randy Weiss won the three-meter springboard and also finished third from the one-meter board.
Wheaton College was atop the women's leaderboard while host Wabash took the men's side. UIndy finished runnerup in both the women's and men's standings and was just 7.5 points off the pace on the men's side.
UIndy will compete next in the Ashland Invite set for Dec. 1 in Ashland, Ohio.
