DAYTON, Ohio- The University of Indianapolis men's basketball team saw its first action of the 2006-07 season with a 94-63 exhibition loss at Wright State University on Thursday night at the Ervin J. Nutter Center. James Thompkins led the Greyhounds with 18 points and six rebounds in the loss.
Braxton Mills came off-the-bench to provide a spark in the opening half, scoring on all four of his field goal attempts and grabbing a pair of offensive boards. For the game, the sophomore hit on 6-of-7 shots for 12 points while adding four rebounds.
The Greyhounds mustered just 3-of-17 (17.6%) from the three-point line in the opening half, 14-of-35 overall (40.0%). Conversely, WSU made 60.0 percent of its shots in building a 48-33 halftime advantage.
WSU dialed it up a notch in the second half scoring 13 of the first 15 points of the second half. The Raiders buried 5 of their first 7 shots from beyond the arc helping them run up a comfortable lead early in the second half of play. Three Raiders were in double digits led by DaShaun Wood's 18 points.
The Greyhounds will have one final tuneup before the start of the regular season when they travel to Bloomington, Ind. to take on Indiana University next Friday. Tip time from Assembly Hall is slated for 8:00 p.m.
Notes: WSU Head Coach Brad Brownell was a UIndy assistant coach from 1992-04, part of a staff that included current UIndy Head Coach Todd Sturgeon ... All 14 players who suited up for the game saw game action in the team's initial tuneup (Michael Patton did not dress).
