INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.-  The Greyhound swimming and diving teams hosted their first home meet, a dual against Great Lakes Intercollegaite Athletic Conference foe Ashland University on Saturday at the Ruth Lilly Fitness Center Pool.  The Greyhound women were 157-123 winners over the Eagles while Ashland bested the UIndy men, 156.5-134.5.

The UIndy women registered several NCAA B-cut times in the win.  Six different swimmers earned NCAA B-cut qualifying standards in an impressive home showing.

Alison Smith was one of three UIndy women to garner two qualifying times on the day.  Smith etched a B-cut time of 59.45 in the 100 backstroke, nearly three seconds ahead of her closest competitor.  She then went on to win the 200 backstroke, posting a B-cut clocking of 2:08.04.  Katie Murray also earned two B-cuts on the day, placing second in the 400 individual medley (4:37.05) and winning the 200 butterfly (2:11.38).  Ellie Miller won both the 500- and 1000-yard freestyle events, qualifying in each race.  She finished the 500 in 5:10.33 and swam the 1000 in 10:37.62.

Valerie Crosby easily outdistanced the competition in the 100 butterfly for a B-cut (58.20).  The women's 50 freestyle produced two UIndy B-cut times, as Isabela Tafur and Holly Spohr each qualified for the national meet in March.

On the men's side, Alex Arestis swam a 21.35 in the 50 freestyle and a 46.59 in the 100 freestyle, each good for an NCAA B-cut to lead the UIndy men.  Other highlights for the men's squad included the winning 200 medley relay squad of Chad Damitz, Eric Mundt, Yaman Oguz and Alex Arestis (1:37.94).  Hanno Ahonen won the 200 freestyle, Jeremy Lindauer took the 100 breaststroke event and Oguz won the 500 freestyle.

The UIndy swimming team will compete again next Saturday at home, welcoming Wayne State University to RLFC Pool in another GLIAC dual.  The competition is set to begin at 11:00 a.m.
