DETROIT, Mich.- The Greyhound men's basketball team opened its seven-game road trip with a 71-60 win over Ferris State in the opening game of the GLIAC/GLVC Challenge hosted by Wayne State University on Wednesday night. The win extends UIndy's winning streak to four as the Hounds sit atop the GLVC East standings.
Sophomore Jordan Barnard poured-in 18 points in just 14 minutes of action. With the score 10-7 in favor of the Greyhounds, Jordan Barnard scored nine straight Hounds points to put the Hounds out in front by 10. He would add the last UIndy bucket of the opening half, giving him 11 points in the first half and helping the Hounds to a 36-24 lead.
The Greyhounds knocked down 16-of-26 shots from the field in the opening stanza (61.5%) and held FSU to just 10-of-27 (37.0%).
FSU (3-6) chipped away at the lead right away in the second half, cutting what was a 17-point lead at one point to just a bucket five minutes into the second frame. The teams traded runs until the Bulldogs took their first lead of the game at the 8:39 mark of the second half, rattling off six straight points to gain the slim advantage. It would be the only lead for FSU, however, as UIndy got 14 second-half points from DeAndre Brock, including four free throws down the stretch, to earn the victory.
Brock led the Hounds with 21 points and six rebounds. Braxton Mills added a season-high 18 points of 8-of-9 shooting to go along with his six rebounds. FSU's Michael Daniels led all scorers with 22 points while Terrance Shaw had 16 points and 12 boards.
UIndy (5-2, 2-1 GLVC) will play the host of the tournament, Wayne State University, in Thursday's finale. Tip time is slated for 7:30 p.m. Eastern.
