HONOLULU, Hawaii – After defeating Hawaii Pacific Friday night, the University of Indianapolis’ first half struggles proved too much to overcome on Saturday as the Hounds fell to Chaminade University, 87-71, on the Silverswords’ home floor.  The Hounds had no answer for All-American candidate Zack Whiting, who notched a triple-double on the evening, going for 39 points, 14 rebounds and 13 assists.

The game remained close through the first ten minutes, with ties coming at 4, 6, 8 and 13.  Indianapolis earned a two possession lead as a DeAndre Brock three gave the Hounds a 19-15 edge.  The Greyhounds missed their next nine shots, however, allowing the Swords to put together a 16-0 run over the next five minutes.

CU pushed the lead to 18 at the 2:11 mark and ultimately brought a 49-34 advantage into the locker room.  The Silverswords’ final bucket of the first stanza came from Whiting, as he finished an impressive half with a dunk.  Whiting scored 26 points and grabbed 10 boards in the first 20 minutes alone.

The Hounds found their touch in the second half, shooting nearly 52% from the floor in the final period.  Trailing by 18 with 9:54 to go, UIndy scored eleven straight points, highlighted by a Brock steal and dunk.  With the lead trimmed to seven with 6:15 to play, the home team managed a 13-4 run to seal the game, sending the Greyhounds back to the mainland with a 1-1 record on Oahu.

Three Hounds reached double figures in scoring, led by Brock’s 18.  The Barnard twins also made solid contributions, with Justin going for 16 points and 6 boards and Jordan adding thirteen and six.

UIndy (6-4, 2-1 GLVC) returns to GLVC play as it faces Saint Joseph’s on Jan. 6.  Tip time is scheduled for 7:30pm.
