INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.- The Greyhound men's soccer team celebrated 25 years of the program's existence and etched a 3-1 win over Ashland University on Friday night at Key Stadium in the season opener for both teams.   Three different Greyhounds found the back of the net in the win and the Hounds defense was solid, especially in a second-half situation which saw UIndy playing a man short.

Brian Fishback got the Hounds on the board first, banging home his own rebound in the 20th minute.  Eight minutes later, freshman Diego Lemus redirected a Wes Leeper cross for a 2-0 Greyhound advantage.

John Higgins converted on a penalty kick late in the opening frame to give UIndy a three-goal margin heading into the second half.  Ashland's Albert Smith tallied a second-half goal, but the Eagles could get no closer, despite playing with a man advantage for all but six minutes of the second half.  UIndy's Corey Barber picked-up his second yellow card and the Hounds were forced to play a man short.

Matt Spaulding earned the win in net, needing to stop just one Ashland shot in the victory.

The Greyhounds continue their homestand on Sunday, playing the second game of a women's and men's doubleheader against Gannon University at Key Stadium.  Game time is set for 2:30 p.m. with the women's game leading things off at noon.

Notes:  Members of the 1981 Indiana Central men's soccer team were introduced during halftime of the contest ... that group won three games in its inaugural season ... Head Coach John Griffin is 3-0-0 in home openers in his tenure at UIndy.
