ASHLAND, Ohio – Indianapolis suffered its first defeats of the season at the annual Ashland Invitational today. The Hounds fell to defending DII national champs and preseason No. 1 Grand Valley State in a sweep (30-32, 26-30, 28-30) before losing to host Ashland University (25-30, 26-30, 25-30), also in three games.
UIndy played the nation’s No. 1 squad tough, averaging 28 points per game, but the Lakers were able to find a way to win, ending the Greyhound win steak at five. Sophomore
Alyssa Carlotta led the Hounds with 10 kills on 27 attempts.
Karla Mast added nine kills and 10 digs.
In the second match, the Hounds were downed by a talented young Ashland squad. UIndy was led by junior transfer
Casey Chrzastowski and freshman libero
Kyleigh Turner. Chrzastowski paced the team with 13 kills while Turner managed 20 digs.
The Greyhounds (5-2) face two more challenges tomorrow, including another top ten opponent, as they continue play in the invitational. Indianapolis will match up with the country’s ninth ranked squad North Alabama in the morning and wrap up its stay in Ohio in an afternoon match versus Palm Atlantic.
