Greyhounds sweep Marian, dominate throughout

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The University of Indianapolis played its most lopsided match of the season Monday night, downing cross-town Marian College (2-3, 0-0 MCC) by scores of 30-18, 30-14, 30-16.  The Hounds hit an efficient .392 on the match while holding their opponent to a minuscule .011.  The win made it five in a row for UIndy and marked its seventh sweep in only 13 matches.

The Knights battled early in the first game, pulling to within one in a 10-9 score.  But the Hounds would score 20 of the next 25 points to take the first game.  Sophomore hitter Alyssa Carlotta collected 11 attack attempts in the opening stanza, finishing four.

Marian would not threaten in the second game and were out-hit .467 to .069.  Senior captain Lynne Ross killed a perfect 6-for-6 in game two.  Ross would finish the match with a career-high .714 hitting percentage, committing only one error in 14 attack attempts while adding a match-high four blocks.

The third and final game would also go the Hounds’ way as Marian could not keep up.  Junior Casey Chrzastowski recorded four kills and three digs in the deciding game.

Other Greyhounds contributed throughout the match.  Freshman Brandi McAllister assisted on 28 kills, her fifth straight game surpassing twenty helpers.  The versatile McAllister also saw some action on the outside, killing five of seven attempts with no attack errors.  Sophomore Ashley Fallos notched game highs in both digs and aces with eleven and four, respectively.

Indianapolis (10-3, 2-0 GLVC) returns to conference play when it hosts Southern Indiana at the Ruth Lilly Fitness Center on Friday night.  UIndy continues its home stand Saturday in an afternoon match versus No. 23 Southern Illinois Edwardsville.  Friday’s start time is scheduled for 7 pm while Saturday’s is at 3 pm.
