SPRINGFIELD, Mo.- The Greyhound men's soccer team suffered a heartbreaking 3-2 overtime loss at the hands of host Drury University on Friday night. The overtime goal, which was scored with just :13 remaining in the extra session, was a product of a penalty kick and gave the Hounds just their second loss in nine games this season.
Late in the first half, the nationally-ranked Panthers turned on the offense, netting a pair of goals just two minutes apart to head to halftime with a 2-0 advantage. The Hounds regrouped in the second stanza, thanks in part to goals from freshman Mar Wane and then the equalizer from sophomore Jon Walker in the 59th minute.
Neither team was able to net a goal throughout the rest of regualtion, sending the game to overtime. With 9:47 off the clock in the bonus session, DU freshman drew a penalty kick after being pulled down in the box. Neal Covington converted on the opportunity and the Panthers escaped, remaining unbeaten on the season (7-0-2).
The loss drops UIndy's record to 7-2-0 overall and 3-2-0 in conference play. The Greyhounds remain on the road and will face Rockhurst on Sunday at noon.
