Volleyballers make it six in a row

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – For the second straight time, the University of Indianapolis dispatched of intrastate rival Southern Indiana (7-4, 1-2 GLVC) in a four-game match Friday night.  USI came into the Ruth Lilly Fitness Center with revenge on its mind after falling the Hounds in last year’s GLVC tourney, but it was not to be as UIndy defeated the Screaming Eagles by scores of 30-23, 26-30, 30-28, and 30-20.  Karla Mast and Brandi McAllister each notched double-doubles for the Greyhounds.

Trailing 11-12 in the first game, the Hounds rallied for eight straight points to go up by seven and would go on to take the game by the same margin.  The teams spilt the next two games in hotly contested fashion, giving one the feeling of an inevitably forthcoming fifth game.  UIndy squashed any such notions, however, by out-hitting its opponent .382 to .158 and taking the fourth and final game.

The statistics were distributed evenly across the home team’s roster as four Hounds reached double-digits in kills and four in digs.  Sophomore Karla Mast tallied 13 kills and a .417 hitting percentage while scooping 12 digs.  Freshmen Brandi McAllister also recorded a double-double by garnering 34 assists and 14 digs.  McAllister also contributed six kills and four blocks.  Senior Lynne Ross had another solid game for UIndy by killing 12 balls with a match-high .500 hitting percentage.  She also added nine blocks.

The Hounds (11-3, 3-0 GLVC) continue their home stand as they face #23 Southern Illinois Edwardsville tomorrow afternoon at 3 pm.  The contest will determine the conference leader as both squads are 3-0 in GLVC play.
