Hounds fall to #20 SIUE, end streak

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – After running off six consecutive victories, the University of Indianapolis lost its first match in nearly two weeks, falling to #20 Southern Illinois Edwardsville in a four-game affair (23-30, 28-30, 30-26, 19-30) at the Ruth Lilly Fitness Center.  It marks both the first home loss and first conference loss of the season for the Hounds.  Three of UIndy’s four losses have come at the hands of ranked teams.

After dropping game one, the Hounds found themselves down 29-25 in the second game, before Coach Jody Butera called a timeout.  UIndy rallied to bring the score to 29-28 and looked as though it would take the game, but the Cougars managed one more point to go up 2-0.  The Greyhounds turned the momentum from the end of the previous game into a game three victory, putting pressure on their ranked opponent.  The gutty Hounds would fall in the fourth game however, ending their season-high win streak.

Junior Casey Chrzastowski led the Hounds with 15 kills while Lynne Ross and Alyssa Carlotta added 13 finishes each.  Freshman Brandi McAllister recorded her second-straight double-double with 11 digs and a season-high 41 assists.  Freshman libero Kyleigh Turner also chipped in 11 digs.

Indianapolis (11-4, 3-1 GLVC) look to start a new win streak as they host conference foe Saint Joseph’s at RLFC on Tuesday.  UIndy has won the last ten head-to-head matches versus the Pumas.  Game time is scheduled for 7 pm.
