Volleyball splits at day two of Ashland tourney

ASHLAND, Ohio-  The Greyhound volleyball team regrouped with a split during the final day of action at the Ashland Invitational on Saturday.  After dropping the morning match to North Alabama, 3-1, UIndy rallied for a three-game sweep over Palm Beach Atlantic in the afternoon match. 

In the first match of the day, the Greyhounds dropped a 3-1 (27-30, 30-28, 29-31, 19-30) decision to nationally-ranked North Alabama.  Lynne Ross led the Hounds' offense with 16 kills and a .333 hit percentage.  Karla Mast recorded a double-double with 13 kills and 19 digs.  Cassie Schott also produced 13 kills and Alyssa Carlotta chipped-in 10 digs for the Greyhounds.

The second match saw the Greyhounds return to form to post a 3-0 (29-31, 19-30, 18-30) win over Palm Beach Atlantic.  Junior transfer Casey Chrzastowski led the Hounds with 11 kills and added eight digs while Ross contributed a team season-high seven blocks.

At the conclusion of the event, tournament officials compiled the Ashland Volleyball Ivitational All-Tournament Team.  UIndy libero Kyleigh Turner (pictured at right) was among the eight players named.  Turner tallied an impressive 51 digs in only four matches, averaging nearly four per game.  She also added seven aces.  Turner was the only freshman among the honorees.

Indianapolis (6-3, 0-0 GLVC) will play at Indiana-Southeast on Wednesday before opening the home portion of its schedule on Friday.  Bellarmine will be the first home opponent for UIndy as the two teams open Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
