Wane nets hat trick as men's soccer wins again

Freshman comes off the bench to lead Hounds to victory

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Freshman Mar Wane provided all the offense for the Greyhounds in a road win over conference foe Bellarmine.  UIndy allowed a season-high two goals, but Wane’s explosion proved enough to hold off the Knights in a 3-2 victory.  The “W” pushed the Hounds’ record to a spotless 5-0-0.

Bellarmine got on the board first as sophomore midfielder Andrew Coverstone found the back of the net.  Wane would then start his barrage.  Coming off the bench, the freshman scored his first collegiate goal in the contest’s 30th minute with the assist going to junior John Higgins. On his second goal, Wane put in his own rebound for an unassisted effort.  Seventy-six seconds later, Wane scored his third and final goal, also unassisted, to cap the Greyhound scoring.  The hat trick took just over 15 minutes to complete.

Bellarmine would score the second half’s only goal in the 52nd minute, but the Greyhound defense would hold to ensure the victory.

UIndy (5-0-0, 2-0-0 GLVC) returns home to face Lewis on Sep. 8 as part of “Talladega Night.”  Kick-off is scheduled for 5:30 pm with the women’s game to follow.
