Hounds earn sweep heading into conference play

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – In the last match before beginning conference play, the University of Indianapolis defeated Indiana University Southeast (3-3, 2-0 KIAC) by a count of 3-0 (30-23, 30-24, 30-15), good for its sixth sweep of the season.  UIndy dominated the Grenadiers, holding them to a .103 hitting percentage for the match, while hitting at a .442 clip themselves.

It was truly a team effort as many Hounds contributed to the victory.  Five Greyhounds recorded at least seven kills, led by Karla Mast's 17.  Setters Beth Robbins and Brandi McAllister aided the killing spree by combining for 49 assists.  Sophomore Cassie Schott and freshman Kyleigh Turner both reached double-digits in digs with 11 and 12, respectively.

It was senoir captain Lynne Ross, however, that contributed the most significant statistic.  Her eight kills on the day allowed her to join an exclusive company.  Ross became only the sixth Greyhound to collect 1,000 career kills.  She is also closing in on 500 career blocks, which, if she attains it, would make her the only Greyhound to reach both milestones.

At long last, the road weary Hounds (7-3, 0-0 GLVC) make their home debut on Friday, Sep. 8 versus Bellarmine, marking the first conference match for both squads.  Head coach Jody Butera is 6-3 in home openers at the Ruth Lilly Center.  The match is the first of six consecutive home dates for UIndy, five of which coming versus GLVC opponents.  Start time is scheduled for 7 pm.

Friday also marks the start of the annual Family Weekend on the University of Indianapolis campus.  Click here for more details.
