UIndy suffers road loss at Rockhurst

Box score

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Aided by 16-for-20 shooting from the foul line in the second half, Rockhurst University (9-5, 3-4 GLVC) downed Indianapolis, 63-46, holding the Hounds to their lowest output of the season.  Neither team shot well from the floor, but the Hawks limited UIndy to just three offensive rebounds, minimizing the Hounds’ second-chance points.  DeAndre Brock and Tristan Rogers each scored nine to lead the Hounds, as no UIndy player reached double-digits in points.

The Hounds came out firing by scoring their first nine points of the game via the three to take an early 9-5 lead.  The Greyhounds scored the majority of their first half points via the long ball, finishing the first twenty minutes by going 6-for-10 from distance.  Sophomore Keith Radcliff connected on his only two three-point attempts, both coming in the half’s final 1:05.  Radcliff’s 25-foot bomb as time expired tied the game at 25 heading into the locker room.

The opponents traded buckets through the early going of the second stanza.  A Rockhurst turnover followed by a layup by Rogers gave the Hounds a three-point lead at the 16:30 mark.  The home team would run off twelve straight to start a 20-3 run, however, building an ultimately insurmountable lead.

The contest became increasingly physical in the second half, as the game’s final ten minutes saw the teams combine for three technical fouls and one intentional.  The Hounds battled through their frustrations and were able to cut a 14-point lead down to seven in just five minutes, as a Scott Strahm jumper brought the score to 51-44 with 4:18 to go.  Two made free throws were all the scoring UIndy could muster from that point, while the Hawks scored 12 more with eight coming at the line.

In addition to Rogers and Brock, Greyhound leaders included Justin Barnard, whoe scored eight points and added six rebounds.  Braxton Mills contributed four points, six boards and a block while Strahm dished four assists.

UIndy (7-6, 3-3 GLVC) finishes a lengthy eight-game road swing versus Drury on Saturday, Jan. 13.  Tip is scheduled for 3 pm CST.
