SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The University of Indianapolis shot a blistering 65% in the second half on the way to matching a season-high in points scored in a 77-66 win versus Drury University (11-5, 4-4 GLVC) at Weiser Gym Saturday. The Hounds missed just seven shots in the final twenty minutes, going 13-for-20 from the floor. By comparison, their opponents misfired on 21 attempts over that same span. Junior
DeAndre Brock scored 19 points to lead four Greyhounds in double-figures.
UIndy grabbed the early edge, as a
Justin Barnard triple put the score at 5-0. DU answered with six-straight points to take the lead at the 15:36 mark. It marked the last advantage Drury would own, however, as the Hounds’ shooting helped keep the Panthers at bay. The Greyhounds pushed the lead as high as eight in the first half, with a 24-16 score with 6:20 to go, but a 12-5 run by the home team cut the difference to a single point.
After a
Tyke Cockerham layup, the Panthers looked to take the last shot. An offensive foul gave the Hounds the ball back and with three seconds remaining in the period,
Keith Radcliff nailed a jumper to put the halftime score at 33-28, marking the second consecutive game that the sophomore scored the final bucket of the first half.
After the break, the Hounds doubled their halftime advantage at the 15:40 mark, as a Scott Strahm triple gave the Hounds a 43-33 lead. Strahm finished with a season-high 14 points, aided by 3-for-3 shooting from behind the arc.
The Panthers would get no closer than seven, as UIndy upped its record to 8-6 overall and 4-3 in the conference.
In addition to his team-high point total, Brock garnered four assists and three steals.
Braxton Mills added 16 points and four rebounds while Justin Barnard finished with 11 points, 6 boards and 3 assists.
After a lengthy eight-game road swing, Indianapolis returns to Nicoson Hall on Thursday, Jan. 18, to face West Division-leading Quincy.
Notes: The Hounds' team field goal percentage of .556 was the best they have shot in an opponent’s gym since 12/21/04, a 110-104 overtime loss at Ferris State ... the victory earned UIndy its eighth win of the season, doubling last year’s total.
