ALLENDALE, Mich.- Two NCAA B-cuts helped the University of Indianapolis women's swimming team to a 119-112 win over host Grand Valley State in a Great Lakes Intercollegaite Athletic Conference dual. The Lakers won the men's meet, outscoring UIndy 142-99.
Alison Smith registered the first B-standard in her 2:08.75 time in winning the 200 backstroke. Niki Stevens also had a B-time on Saturday, winning the 200 breaststroke in 2:26.64. Other winners for UIndy included: 200 medley and freestyle relays, Ellie Miller (1000 free), Isabela Tafur (50 & 100 free) and Smith (200 free).
The Greyhound men were led by Alex Arestis, who scored two wins. He was victorious in the 50 free (22.36) also won the 100 free (48.25). Hanno Ahonen won the 1000 freestyle, touching in 10:09.97. Yaman Oguz took the 200 freestyle (1:46.28) and Thad Wallin was the 200 backstroke winner (2:01.07). The men's 200 freestyle relay wrapped up the meet with a win (1:29.03).
The Greyhounds return home for one final tuneup prior to the GLIAC Championships. The men will host Wabash while the UIndy women entertain fellow GLIAC foe Northern Michigan. The meet is scheduled to get underway next Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Ruth Lilly Center pool.
