INDIANAPOLIS - Fresh off being dubbed the No. 1 team in the Great Lakes Region in the initial Division II regional rankings released this week, the University of Indianapolis volleyball team (23-1, 13-0 GLVC) won its school-record 20th-straight match Saturday afternoon at the Ruth Lilly Center with a 30-27, 30-24, 30-10 win over Drury. Drury (12-10, 6-7 GLVC) hung tough for the majority of the first two games. Down five late in game one, the Panthers mustered a 5-1 run to put the score at 28-27 Greyhounds. However, UIndy scored the next two points on kills from
Jessica Breeden and
Casey Chrzastowski in take the opener.
Though game two featured eight ties, the visiting Panthers led the majority of the game. But with the score 24-22 Drury, the Hounds scored the final eight points to put the Panthers in a 2-0 hole. Freshman
Cheneta Morrison played a key role in the late rally as UIndy scored its last seven points on her serve. The Fort Wayne, Ind. native provided two aces, a kill and an assist in that span.
Game three was all UIndy, as the Greyhounds held their opponents to a season-low 10 points while out-hitting them .500 to -.062. UIndy closed the match on a 20-5 run.
Callahan’s performance was the eighth double-double of the season for the Chicago product, a team high. Morrison finished with a .333 hitting percentage, nine kills and three service aces.
Alyssa Carlotta didn’t see the floor until game three, but the junior southpaw killed six of seven attempts, good for a .857 percentage, while adding a block assist.
UIndy has one more home match before it hits the road for three straight. The Hounds battle Tiffin in the Ruth Lilly Center at 7 pm on Wednesday, Oct. 17.
