Complete 2007 All-GLIAC Football teams (.pdf)
BAY CITY, Mich.- Six Greyhounds were named to the All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference First and Second Teams, announced today by league officials. The teams were highlighted by four defensive first team nods for UIndy, including Jimmy Fleshman, Leonard Bush, Kevin Shaw and Kenneth Akridge. Eric Wright and Zach Dennis were named to the league's second team. The four first teamers marked the most for UIndy since the Hounds placed four on the Midwest Intercollegiate Football Conference (MIFC) First Team back in 1998.
Fleshman is a two-time honoree, garnering first team accolades each of the last two seasons. He tallied 55 total tackles this past season, including 6.5 tackles for loss. For his career, the Columbus, Ohio native has registered 27.5 tackles for loss, 10th-most all-time at the school.
Bush had 74 total tackles this past season and is already just two shy of 200 for his career as a Greyhound. The junior from Cincinnati, Ohio led the team with a pair of interceptions from his linebacker position. He also led the team in forced fumbles (2) and was second in total tackles (74).
Shaw, who has led the Greyhounds in tackling in the past two seasons, has etched 242 total tackles in his four years in the UIndy secondary. That total ranks 31st all-time in the school record books. This past season, the Greenwood, Ind. product led the squad with 78 total stops, with an interception and four passes defended.
Akridge is tied for ninth all-time at UIndy with nine career interceptions. He recorded 11 passes defended this past season to bring his career total to 41. A native of Dayton, Ohio, Akridge started all four years in a Greyhound uniform, making 44 starts over four seasons. As a freshman, Akridge tallied both a fumble recovery and an interception return for a touchdown in the same game.
UIndy's second teamers helped the offense rack-up a school-record 353 points. Center Zach Dennis was a key cog in the offensive line, paving the way for junior runningback Eric Wright to become the second straight 1,000-yard rusher at UIndy. Wright etched a new school mark for rushing touchdowns in a season with 14 while garnering 1,076 yards along the ground this season.
Six more Greyhounds were named to the honorable mention team led by senior signal-caller Casey Gillin. Joining him were tight end Seth Pickett, offensive linemen Tim Dury and Eric Quintana, defensive lineman Trent Harris and defensive end Randall Courtney.
Hillsdale's Mark Nicolet was named the league's football player of the year while top-ranked Grand Valley State took three of the top honors (Freshman of the Year, Offensive Lineman of the Year, Defensive Back of the Year and Coach of the Year.)
