ALLENDALE, Mich. - The University of Indianapolis volleyball team’s record-setting season came to an end on Friday. The Greyhounds fell to two-seed Lewis University (32-3) at the NCAA DII Great Lakes Regional Semifinals, held at the GVSU Fieldhouse on the campus of Grand Valley State.  After winning a record 33 matches and notching the program’s first NCAA win, the third-seeded Hounds (33-4) were downed in five games by the fellow GLVC member, their third loss to Lewis this season.

UIndy took games one and three by identical 30-21 scores while Lewis won the even-numbered frames to set up the decisive fifth game.  The final stanza saw six ties before either team reached ten points.  The Hounds held a 12-10 edge before Lewis scored five of the game’s last six points to take the match and advance to the regional finals.

Junior Alyssa Carlotta compiled a team-high .400 hitting percentage by notching season highs in both kills (27) and attack attempts (60).  Freshman Lyndsay Callahan notched her second double-double in as many matches by tallying 19 kills and 20 digs.  Senior Casey Chrzastowski had 12 kills and 11 digs in her final collegiate match while sophomore libero Kyleigh Turner scooped a match-high 35 digs.

The Hounds achieved many highlights in their stellar season: 33 wins, Coach Butera’s record-breaking win total, a 25-match win streak, Beth Robbins’ record 1,694 assists, Turner’s record 737 digs, et al.  Five Hounds were named to the all-conference teams while two were dubbed all-region.

As for Lewis, it goes on to face the winner of the Grand Valley/SIUE match for the right to go the Elite Eight.
