Hounds snap six-game win streak

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The Greyhound men's basketball team suffered its first loss of the season, dropping a 63-53 decision to Lander University in the opening game of the Queen's University Holiday Classic on Saturday.

The Greyhounds jumped out to a quick 6-0 advantage on triples from Justin Barnard (pictured) and DeAndre Brock.  UIndy would lead by as many as seven in the opening period, but a 15-3 run by Lander to close out the half staked the Bearcats to an 28-23 lead at the break.

Another Justin Barnard three-pointer five minutes into the second half trimmed the margin to just three, but it would be the closest the Hounds would get.  Following the bucket, Lander went on another run, scoring 16 of the next 22 points to expand the lead to 13.

Trailing by that margin with under two minutes remaining, the Hounds exacted a furious rally, scoring eight straight points, capped by a Barnard triple to slice it to five with :49 left.  But, the Bearcats converted 5-of-6 free throws down the stretch to put the game away.

Barnard finished with five three-pointers on the afternoon, en route to a team-high 18 points.  He also pulled down six rebounds and had three steals in the contest.  Brock tallied 17 points, but struggled from the floor, missing on his final nine three-point attempts.

Sunday, UIndy (6-1, 2-0 GLVC) will face West Virginia State University, who lost Saturday to host Queen's, 82-77.  Tipoff is slated for 3:30 p.m.
