Lewis leads throughout to snap UIndy home win streak

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.-  Lewis took an early advantage and never looked back in handing UIndy its first home loss in the conference in a 68-62 loss at Nicoson Hall on Thursday night.  LU was led by Brandon Dagans, who hit on 10-of-13 shots from the floor for a game-high 25 points.

Lewis got on the board first and led throughout.  The first-half Flyer lead would grow to 10 before a quick 8-0 spurt helped trim the lead to a bucket at 27-25.  But, Lewis held the Hounds off the scoreboard for the remainder of the half to take an 11-point cushion into the halftime locker room.  Dagans registered 17 in the opening frame to pave the way for LU.

UIndy went to work on the lead right away in the second stanza, chipping the deficit down to two, 42-40, on triples from DeAndre Brock and Scott Strahm.  Lewis responded, however, with 10 straight and the Hounds again found themselves down by double digits.

With the score 62-52, the Greyhound full-court pressure produced a pair of turnovers, helping UIndy claw to within five.  A Braxton Mills putback swung the momentum and forced a Lewis timeout with 2:31 remaining as the Flyers clung to a 62-59 lead.

After Brock cut the margin to one, Dagans converted on back-to-back possessions for a five-point advantage in the game's final 24 seconds.  Those points would prove to be enough as the Greyhounds' rally fell just shy.  The loss halted UIndy's home-court winning streak at six and gave the Hounds their first conference loss at home this season.

Dagans led all scorers with 25 points for Lewis.  Four Greyhounds were in double digits, led by 12 apiece from Justin Barnard and Brock.  Mills had 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Hounds.

The Greyhounds will host Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday at Nicoson Hall.  Tip time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
