Hounds drop final game to Drury, 5-2

Drury 5, Indianapolis 2

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.-  Freshman Harrison Waters held the Greyhounds to just two runs on five hits in 7.1 innings to help host Drury take a 5-2 win in Great Lakes Valley Conference play on Sunday afternoon.  The win gave the Panthers the series, after a doubleheader split on Saturday.

UIndy (6-11, 4-4 GLVC) struck first as Dalan Dugger drove in Justin Russell in the top of the first inning for a slim 1-0 lead.  It would hold until the fourth inning when DU (10-9, 6-2 GLVC) grabbed the lead with a pair of runs on a run-scoring single and an error.

It remained a one-run game until the Panthers posted three runs in the seventh inning to go up, 5-1.  A pair of RBI singles bookended a sacrifice fly to score the Drury runs.

The Hounds got one back in the top of the next inning on Russell's run-scoring double to drive in Jake Tranchant, who hit a one-out single.  The Panther bullpen shut the door, recording the final five outs without allowing a hit.

Jason Ornellas took the loss for the Greyhounds, despite allowing just one earned run in four innings.  The Hounds' bullpen gave up three earned runs in four innings of work, scattering just three hits.  Dugger and Russell each had a pair of hits to lead the Hounds' attack.a

UIndy will head to Saint Joseph's on Tuesday for a doubleheader.  The games will get underway at 1:00 p.m. Eastern time.
