INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.- The Greyhound women's tennis team fell to cross-town Butler University, 6-1, on Friday night. The Hounds were without several key members of the team against the NCAA Division I opponent.
UIndy's doubles pairings were a bit juggled, but still managed to take the team point after winning two of the three matches. The No. 1 team of Melanie Sullivan and Jeannie Hartley took advantage of playing at the top spot for the first time by taking a 9-7 win. The other doubles win came at No. 3, where Ashley Liles and Lindsey Loffer teamed to take an easy 8-2 decision.
In singles play, the host Bulldogs would take straight-set matches in all positions except for No. 2. Laura Phillipp (pictured), playing up in the lineup, stretched her match to a third set after a scrappy 7-6 (4) second set to tie the match.
UIndy does not have a win to its credit this season but will continue its tough non-conference schedule when it heads to Florida to battle some of the top teams in all of Division II.
