Game 2: UIndy 6, Wis.-Parkside 2

KENOSHA, Wis.-  All nine UIndy starters had at least one hit and seven drove in at least one run as the visiting Greyhounds picked up a Great Lakes Valley Conference sweep, 5-4 and 6-2, over Wisconsin-Parkside on Monday.  The games were made-up from Saturday's originally-scheduled contests.

Freshman Jessica Breeden drove in three runs as the Hounds won the opener, 5-2.  Playing in her first game back since a foul ball broke her nose back on Apr. 7, Breeden tallied two extra-base hits in the final two innings to help UIndy to the win.  With the Greyhounds trailing 1-0 in the top of the sixth, she doubled home Julie Zaitz (pictured) to tie the score.  Breeden later came home on Megan Russell's two-run single to give UIndy a 3-1 lead through six.

UWP (17-16, 7-9 GLVC) got one back in the bottom of the sixth, but Breeden struck again in the seventh, taking Meagan Shimkus deep to left center with Amanda Wendlinger aboard to give the Hounds a pair of insurance runs.  They would need them with Amanda Miller homering in the bottom of the seventh to cut it to 5-4, but Wendlinger struck out the game's final two batters to earn her ninth win of the season, matching her total from all of last season.

Colleen Roach added two hits in the first game, etching her team-high 14th multi-hit game.

UIndy (22-13, 9-5 GLVC) garnered just two hits through the first five innings in the second game, falling behind 2-0.  In the top of the sixth, however, the Greyhound bats rattled off seven straight singles to score five runs in the frame.  All five runs batted in came from different hitters and the Hounds sent 10 to the plate in the inning.   Kathy Blanchard produced an insurance run in the seventh with another RBI single, her second of the game, helping the Greyhounds to a 6-2 win.

Russell worked the entire seven innings, striking out 10 while allowing just one earned run.  She upped her record to 9-5 on the season with the win.  Zaitz had three hits on the afternoon and extended her hitting streak to six straight games.

The Greyhounds will make-up a doubleheader at Saint Joseph's on Thursday before hosting their final home games this weekend when they welcome Bellarmine and Northern Kentucky to Baumgartner Field on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
