GOLDEN, Colo. – For the second consecutive year, the University of Indianapolis volleyball team began its campaign with back-to-back sweeps on the season’s opening day.  The Hounds executed two perfect matches on day one of the Mile High Classic, a six-team invitational hosted by Colorado Christian University at Volk Arena.  UIndy defeated the University of Charleston (30-17, 30-12, 30-18) on Friday morning and followed with a sweep over Western State (30-15, 30-28, 30-21).

The Hounds kicked off 2007 with a dominating performance against Charleston.  UIndy limited the Golden Eagles to a -.052 attack percentage, the lowest figure by a Greyhound opponent since Kentucky Wesleyan managed a mere -.079 on 10/30/04.  Three Hounds reached double-digits in kills as Casey Chrzastowski, Elizabeth Shuyler and Brandi McAllister all killed 10 balls while sophomore libero Kyleigh Turner scooped a career-best 29 digs.  UC was dubbed the favorite to win the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in preseason coaches poll.

UIndy continued to roll in the nightcap by defeating Western State in three straight games.  Chrzastowski paced the Hounds with 17 kills followed by McAllister’s 10.  Turner tacked on 26 more digs to her season total while freshman Lyndsay Callahan added 12 more.  Junior setter Beth Robbins finished the day with 77 assists in the two matches.

UIndy (2-0 overall) continues play in the Classic, taking on Chadron State and South Dakota on Saturday in the final day of the tournament.
