ST. JOSEPH, Mo.- After winning her 228th and 229th matches on Friday, University of Indianapolis Head Volleyball Coach Jody Butera became the program's all-time winningest coach. The Hounds (5-1, 0-0 GLVC) opened play in the Ramada Inn Invitational with a four-game win over Emporia State (26-30, 30-22, 30-20, 30-22), followed by a sweep against Fort Hays State (30-23, 30-25, 30-20). The two-day event is being hosted at the Looney Complex on the campus of Missouri Western State University.
Coach Butera's milestone accomplishment came after the victory over ESU. She became the program's all-time wins leader by passing UIndy's former head coach and current athletic director, Dr. Sue Willey. Butera has compiled a 229-140 mark in ten-plus seasons as the Greyhound head coach. Her .621 winning percentage in also tops in program history.
After dropping game one, UIndy ran off three straight to hand Emporia State (4-1) its first loss of the season.
Elizabeth Shuyler excelled at the net as the senior co-captain set personal bests in attacks (40) and kills (21). Freshman
Lyndsay Callahan notched the first Greyhound double-double of the season by collecting 10 kills and 12 digs.
Thanks to a .389 hitting percentage,
Cheneta Morrison killed nine balls and added a match-high four aces while
Beth Robbins tallied 55 assists, eight digs and seven kills.
The Hounds continued to roll against Fort Hays State, winning the match in the minumim three games. Three Greyhounds reached double-digits in digs, led by
Kyleigh Turner’s 19. Callahan registered 18 digs to go with nine kills while Robbins added 33 assists and 12 digs.
Casey Chrzastowski paced the Hounds with 13 kills while Morrison continued her attacking efficiency by compiling a .333 hitting clip on nine kills.
The Greyhounds continue play in the Ramada Inn Invitational with two Saturday matches- battling host Missouri Western State at noon followed by a match against Newman University at 4:00 p.m.
