ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – After dropping its first game in the Ramada Inn Invitational, the University of Indianapolis volleyball team won its next 12 games to finish the two-day event with a perfect 4-0 record, pushing its overall mark to 7-1. After collecting two wins on Friday, UIndy picked up two more on Saturday, downing host Missouri Western State (30-15, 30-17, 30-19) and Newman University (30-24, 30-15, 30-18), both by way of a sweep.
The Hounds opened Saturday’s action by facing Missouri Western State on its home court. UIndy dominated the Griffons, holding them to under 20 points each game. The Hounds out-hit their opponents .291 to -.091 as MWSU couldn’t muster a positive hitting percentage in any of the three games.
Outside hitter
Casey Chrzastowski (pictured) garnered the majority of the attack attempts and didn’t disappoint. The senior co-captain notched match highs in both attempts (42) and kills (20) while hitting at a .381 clip. Junior setter
Beth Robbins assisted on 35 of the Greyhounds’ 45 kills and sophomore libero
Kyleigh Turner registered 16 digs.
UIndy wrapped up its stay in Missouri with a three-game win over Newman, its third sweep in two days. After a relatively close game one, the Hounds outscored the Jets in games two and three by a total score of 60-33 to take the match.
Chrzastowski had another strong performance by collecting 13 kills, 4 digs and a .303 hitting percentage. Freshman
Lyndsay Callahan recorded her second double-double of the young season with 10 kills and 10 digs. Robbins asissted on 34 kills, giving her at least 30 assists in all eight matches this season. Turner again led the team in digs by scooping 14.
Indianapolis returns to the Hoosier State on Sep. 4 for a match at Oakland City, the final tune-up before conference play begins.
