INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.- In its home opener, the UIndy volleyball team dispatched Saint Joseph's, 3-0, in Great Lakes Valley Conference play at the Ruth Lilly Fitness Center. The Greyhounds won the match with relative ease, thanks to a .347 hit percentage and kills coming from 10 different Greyhounds.
UIndy (11-1, 3-0 GLVC) controlled the match throughout, jumping out to an early lead in the first game and never relinquishing control. Freshman hitter Lyndsay Callahan hammered home four of her match-high 13 kills in the opener to help the Hounds to the win, 30-14.
Game two saw the teams battle back-and-forth to a 14-12 score until UIndy finally put a firm handle on the game with seven of the next eight points to take game two, 30-19.
In the third game, UIndy stayed on the gas, closing out the game, 30-17, and the match to earn its ninth win via sweep and seventh straight win. The Hounds have now bested the Pumas 13 straight times dating back to the 2000 season.
Beth Robbins chipped-in 44 assists while Kyleigh Turner led all players with 26 digs.
UIndy sits atop the GLVC East standings and will play five of its next six in front of the home faithful. The Greyhounds head to Owensboro, Ky. for a battle with Kentucky Wesleyan before returning to Indianapolis for five straight. The next UIndy home match is slated for Sep. 19, a non-conference affair with Indiana Tech at 7:00 p.m.
Notes: Head Coach Jody Butera was honored before the match for her record-breaking 228th win, surpassing former coach and current UIndy Director of Athletics Dr. Sue Willey for the most wins in the program's history ... Butera is now 235-140 (.627) in her 10-plus years on the Greyhound bench ... Callahan notched her 100th kill of the season, marking the third Greyhound to go over the century mark in finishes already this season ... The Hounds have now won four straight at home and 11 of their last 13 in the RLFC.
