INDIANAPOLIS - The University of Indianapolis volleyball team set a pair of team records Friday night. With a 30-18, 30-23, 30-14 sweep over visiting Bellarmine, the Greyhounds built a 14-1 record to start the season and an 11-game winning streak, both program benchmarks.
Casey Chrzastowski paced the Hounds with a match-high 16 kills.
UIndy (14-1, 5-0 GLVC) scored the match's first five points before pushing the score to 10-3. The Knights (4-9, 1-4 GLVC) were not discouraged as they slowly cut the lead to two with a 15-13 count. The Hounds cruised from there, however, taking 15 of the final 20 points to close out the opener.
The second game saw the Knights' first lead -- a 2-1 tally -- followed by twelve ties as neither team could create separation. Bellarmine led 20-17 and looked to even up the match. The Hounds would not oblige as they again ended on a big run, this one of the 13-3 variety.
UIndy's game-ending surge came mostly during the strong serving of
Beth Robbins. The Greyhounds scored eight consecutive points on her turn, two coming on service aces from the junior setter. Robbins finished with 40 assists, three digs and three aces.
Indianapolis carried that momentum into game three, out-hitting the Knights by a staggering .538-.033. The Hounds' hitting percentage in the final game marked the highest single-game total of the season.
Kyleigh Turner had a run similar to Robbins'. The sophomore libero served twelve straight times in game three to put the match out of reach. Defensively, she scooped 24 digs to tie the school record for most digs in a three-game match. Turner set the four-game mark earlier this season.
Thanks to a .469 hitting percentage, senior
Casey Chrzastowski led the Hounds in kills (16) and attack attempts (32) for the second straight match.
Elizabeth Shuyler tallied eight kills and two blocks while
Lyndsay Callahan added seven finishes and four digs. Freshman
Cheneta Morrison hit for a season-best .636 clip while earning seven kills and two aces.
Saturday afternoon holds the biggest match to date for the Hounds this season as UIndy puts its spotless conference record on the line against 22nd-ranked Northern Kentucky. The Hounds lead NKU by a single game in the GLVC East standings and will need a win to stay ahead of the talented Norse. Start time is scheduled for 3 pm.
